Animal Injured on Airline Conveyor Belt

Denver-based Frontier Airlines agreed to pay for any related medical expenses and promised to discipline the employee who made the mistake.

According to a new monthly government report, four animals died, one was lost and another was injured while traveling on U.S. airlines during the month of May. Congress passed a law several years ago requiring carriers to track and provide monthly reports on animal injuries and deaths The information provides a resource for consumers considering traveling with pets.

It is estimated that roughly 2 million animals fly aboard commercial airlines each year, although there were no formal measures in place to track injuries or deaths prior to the new government reports.

A spokesman for Frontier said that every possible effort is made to follow procedures for transporting pets.
