Investigators say that preliminary reports indicate that the British Columbia ferry lost power for an undetermined reason.

Deborah Marshall, BC Ferries spokesperson, said the Queen of Oak Bay and its sister ships, Queen of Cowichan and the Queen of Coquitlam have had a history of clutch problems. The ferry will undergo a series of rigorous tests with company officials, The Transportation Safety Board and Transport Canada.

Queen of Oak Bay operates between Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo. The ferry had recently returned to service after undergoing a complete refurbishing. All reservations for this route have been cancelled until further notice. BC Ferry says the ship will return to its normal route once officials have completed testing and qualified it for service.
