The report stated that pilots at Logan airport had to change their path eight times to avoid collisions between January 2004 and June 1, 2005. In addition, air traffic controllers made two operational errors during this same time period.

While the FAA reported that these numbers were high, they found an overall reduction of serious runway incidents.

"We take our responsibility of operating safe operations at Logan very seriously", said spokesperson, Danny Levy of the Massachusetts Port Authority. "We rely on the FAA for the safe movement of aircraft", she said.

Logan is the 17th busiest airport for total takeoffs and landings. The FAA is further investigating a June 9 incident at Logan when a US Airways jet and an Aer Lingus jet came within 171 feet of each other.
