Suit Filed Against General Electric for Microwave Fire

The Silverman's microwave was not in use when the fire began, coinciding with similar claims from 50 other Spacemaker owners over the past 10 years. Complaints filed with the Consumer Product Safety Commission have been investigated but have yielded no recall from the CPSC. CPSC examiners have determined that the microwave did not cause the Silverman's fire and others that have been reported. Fire department investigators contradict these claims by the CPSC, saying that the Spacemaker microwave was clearly the source of the fire. GE representatives stand by the CPSC's findings and have denied any responsibility for the blaze.

The Silvermans are seeking compensation from GE for the hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of fire damage to their home and would like to see the Spacemaker microwave recalled to prevent future incidents.
