Volkswagens, Fords, Toyotas Recalled

The recalls affect nearly 40, 000 Volkswagen Jetta sedans from the 2005 model year, more than 10,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator sport utility vehicles from the 2006 model year, and almost 12,000 of the 2005 model year Toyota Tacoma trucks.

The Volkswagens have a defective clamp that may be incorrectly positioned on the fuel supply line, which could lead to a leak and start a fire. Although no deaths or injuries have been reported, Volkswagen wants "to act quickly and reassure new Jetta owners" about the safety of the vehicles.

The Ford vehicles are being recalled due to possible tire tread damage caused during manufacturing, and the Toyota vehicles may have defective seat-belt buckle sensors. On trucks with bench seats, this could cause the air bag to deploy improperly in an accident.

Dealers for all three auto makers will be repairing the defective parts free of charge for vehicle owners.
