A defective cruise control switch has been the focus of the company's probe, which resulted in a voluntary recall of more than 700,000 vehicles last year.
Despite the recall, the fires continue to occur. According to the U.S. Safety Administration, more than 512 fires have been reported, causing both personal injury and property damage.
Ford says it does not have any proof that the cruise control switches are part of the problem, and the company continues to investigate the matter.
Affected models include the F-150, Expedition, and Navigator.
