Taser International, manufacturer of the Taser stun gun, is currently facing a class action lawsuit alleging the company misled police departments about the device's safety.

Taser's were involved in the July death of a Santa Rosa man, and have been receiving heavy criticism from groups such as Amnesty International that claim the devices can be lethal.

Merillville's Chief of Police chose to get rid of the department's 12 Tasers and said officers will now use pepper spray when faced with unruly suspects.
