Early Monday morning, the unidentified suspect allegedly kicked in the front door of a condominium. The 27-year-old homeowner confronted the intruder, who he said was a stranger, and chased him to a nearby AM/PM Mini-Mart where they fought.
Officers arrived to separate the men, and instructed them to sit on the curb. When the suspect fled, officers chased him down and struggled to subdue him. The suspect allegedly kept struggling even while being zapped with the Taser, pepper sprayed, and struck on the legs with a baton.
According to police, the man lost consciousness while officers had him down on his stomach and were about to wrap him in a nylon device used to immobilize a person's arms and legs.
Officers performed CPR, but the man was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
