Kenneth L. Peterson, a 76 year-old resident of Fort Madison, filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court last week. He is seeking to recover compensation for his medical fees, loss of earnings, and the drastic effect on his lifestyle.

His wife says that Peterson exercised frequently and was in good health before the stroke. Now his left side is paralyzed and he requires a caretaker. Peterson was taking Bextra to ease the pain and inflammation from torn ligaments in his knee.

Pfizer has yet to comment on the case, but the manufacturer has maintained that the benefits of Bextra outweigh the risks.

Pfizer recently suspended sales of Bextra after the FDA requested a voluntary withdrawal. The pharmaceutical company is working with the FDA to add a warning to the label before returning it to the marketplace.
