Aerojet-General Will Clean Up Contaminated Sacramento-Area Groundwater

The groundwater was contaminated as a result of Aerojet employees dumping fuel and other dangerous chemicals on the company's land in Rancho Cordova. The contaminated groundwater has endangered the water supply of 40,000 people living in the area east of Sacramento.

Local Water District officials estimate that the contaminated water is moving 500 feet per year. At this pace, nearby drinking water wells could become contaminated within 8-10 years if nothing is done to halt the water's progress.

Aerojet will build a system for pumping out the dangerous water and remove contaminants, at cost to the company of roughly $4 million.
