Man in critical condition after Taser shock

33-year-old Eric Mahoney was shot at seven to nine times with a Taser Friday while trying to climb over a wall -- though police say four of the shots missed.

The man's condition was the first such medical emergency involved with stun gun use since Fremont police began using Tasers in September.

The man's condition provides further ammunition to a growing number of Taser critics, who say the device can be lethal.

Taser is currently the subject of a class action lawsuit and under investigation regarding the death of a 30-year-old San Jose man whose death may also be linked to Taser usage.
