Ana Dominquez, who is accused of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident and is scheduled for criminal trial in September, claims in her suit that her tires caused her car to lose traction on wet pavement, sending her into oncoming traffic. Four cars were involved in the collision, which claimed the lives of Conchita and Loreto Tenorio, and caused injuries to Jefferson Retundo and Jayleen Reyes.
The suit accuses Richard Weiser, Jr., and his company, K.A.R. Lube-Plus, and KHI Inc., which operates Bayside Chevron Service in Hilo of selling tires that were unfit and dangerous and were a cause of the collision. The suit further states that her car was otherwise safe when the collision occurred.
A police report says heavy rainfall was a factor when Dominguez crossed into oncoming traffic with her 1999 Mazda pickup and struck the 1993 Subaru in which the Tenorio's were traveling. The Mazda then hit a 1994 Nissan coupe and debris from the collision struck a fourth car.
Dominguez, who was ejected from her vehicle in the crash, claims to have suffered severe injuries.
