The lawsuit was filed in 2003 by Maria Bracamonte, a 55-year-old Tucson woman who had been a patient of Schwartz at his practice, Arizona Specialty Eye Care.

The lawsuit alleged that ophthalmologist Dr. Bradley Schwartz performed surgery on Bracamonte while under the influence of the prescription drug Vicodin. Between October of 2000 and September 2002, Schwartz operated on Bracamonte 13 times. She maintains that his diminished capacity resulted in negligent care.

Bracamonte claims that she has been disfigured, and suffers from pain and diminished eyesight in her left eye.

Schwartz still faces two other medical malpractice trials, as well as unrelated first-degree murder charges. He has admitted no wrongdoing in the Bracamonte case.
