The passengers were setting out for an 11-day Alaskan cruise when they were informed that the ship was experiencing mechanical problems. The passengers were then told that they would be taken to a hotel for a free lunch and a tour of Seattle while the ship was being repaired. However, passengers stated that lunch at the hotel consisted of nuts, crackers and tortilla chips and a tour of the city had not been arranged. Passengers were also informed that their itinerary had changed from six port stops to four, significantly reducing the advertised sightseeing excursions.
The captain of the ship, Captain Nenad Mogie, issued a letter to passengers stating that there was a technical problem with one of the ship's engines. The cruise-line sent a third party representative to handle the situation.
The Norwegian Dream is run by Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL).
