A jury found 36-year-old Carl Rowe guilty of drug possession and distribution, convicting him on one of the three incidents he was charged with.
Rowe was also convicted of a drug conviction in 1993. Taking this into account, Assistant Prosecutor Donna Fetzer moved to have Rowe sentenced to an extended term.
Hammonton Detective Gerry Martinez testified during the five-day trial that Rowe sold cocaine on four separate occasions to an informant who wore a wire and that the drug dealings were recorded.
Defense attorney Edwin Jacobs, Jr., maintained that although it was Rowe's voice on the tape he did not sell drugs to anyone.
Amy Weintrob, Rowe's co-counsel requested the judge show lenience to Rowe who successfully completed an intensive drug and alcohol rehabilitation program.
Rowe also has a young child. The judge took this into consideration, but still sentenced Rowe to the extended term due to his previous drug conviction and drug dealings over the past 15 years.
