Beverly Neumann, 75, had been a resident of The McAllister Nursing Home for 37 years, when in February she was transferred to Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet to be treated for a broken hip.

According to the lawsuit, she returned to McAllister but was shortly sent back to Silver Cross due to a bladder condition.

During this time, doctors noticed that gangrenous lesions had developed on her body. Concerned that the lesions were the result of negligent care, the hospital staff informed the Illinois Department of Public Health, the lawsuit states.

Neumann's brother, Kenneth, filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court Monday.

Representatives for McAllister could not be reached for comment Monday evening.

Neumann now resides in Naperville where she receives hospice care. According to her brother, she survives with the aid of a feeding tube.

In 1968, Neumann was brought to McAllister after it was discovered that she suffered from a psychiatric disorder, her brother said.
