There are a total of ten tires on a Boeing 757. The four damaged tires on Flight 210 were all on the same landing gear. The president of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) Local 5 stated that it was very unusual for four tires to blow out at once.

The incident happened just hours after airline mechanics went on strike; however, Northwest officials stated that they were convinced that the incident was not strike-related. A spokesperson from Northwest Airlines stated that flat tires were found on at least two other aircraft just before the strike began on Saturday.

No one was hurt in the incident and passengers were bused to their terminals and given free travel vouchers. The FAA said it was investigating the situation.

Northwest contracted out handling of all of their tires to Goodyear just nine months ago.
