Royal Caribbean Launches World's Largest Cruise Ship

The cruise ship, under construction in Finland, is now the largest liner afloat in the world, weighing in at 158,000 gross tons. 'Freedom of the Seas' is the first in a series of Royal Caribbean's new 'Freedom' class ships. The ship has the capacity to hold 5,740 guests and crewmembers and will have 1817 staterooms. The ship is 427 feet long and will have extensive shopping, dining and entertainment choices as well as a bookstore.

The ship will sail out of Miami for a seven-night cruise that will call in Cozumel, Mexico, George Town, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, Jamaica, Labadee and Hispaniola. 'Freedom of the Seas' is expected to make its debut run some time in May 2006.
