West Bend Housewares LLC has received close to two hundred reports of carafe handles breaking or loosening from the side of the 10-cup, glass carafe, and three reports of burn injury. When the handle breaks or loosens the coffee carafe can break causing injury resulting from either broken glass, or hot liquids.

The defective carafe was sold from July 2004 to July 2005, as a part of West Bend Houseware's Automatic Coffeemaker and separately, as a replacement carafe. Retailers who carried the product include Dillards, AAFES, Bi-Mart, and other houseware retailers. Carafes involved in the recall have a 4-digit date code located on the bottom of the coffemaker that begins with 04. Consumers are urged to discontinue use of this product and contact West Bend Housewares for a safe replacement carafe.
