SCLC to march against Taser gun use

The SCLC president announced that the three-mile march Nov. 12 will be held in the suburban Atlanta town where a jailed man died days after he was stunned with a Taser.

The SCLC had previously asked that the district attorney reopen the investigation of the death of Frederick Williams, 31, of Lawrenceville, who died in May 2004 after being stunned with a Taser in jail.

The group wanted the DA to recommend a special grand jury be convened to re-examine whether the deputies should be held responsible for the man's death, but were denied in June.

The group also wants to raise awareness about the dangers of Taser stun guns, and plan to urge Taser International Inc. to stop manufacturing the devices.
