On Aug. 24, nanny Janay Roberts filed a personal injury lawsuit against Coach Bob Stoops and his wife, Carol. The nanny said she suffered back, head and shoulder injuries after falling down a staircase at Stoops' home. The nanny also contends the fall may have cause her to have a miscarriage.
In early September 2003, the nanny was tripped by one of the Stoops family's dogs and fell down a staircase. The accident occurred while Carol Stoops was hosting a Mary Kay cosmetics party in the home and the nanny was upstairs baby-sitting the couple's three children.
The nanny said Stoops and his wife initially promised to pay her medical expenses. The couple reneged on the agreement and fired her after being told she would need surgery, the nanny contends.
The nanny now seeks more than $20,000 for injuries and lost wages.
In the lawsuit, the nanny said the couple "had direct knowledge that a claim had been submitted under their homeowner's liability policy and that the claim had been denied because Bob Stoops and Carol Stoops did not follow the law requiring workers' compensation insurance." Stoops said he and his wife followed the appropriate laws.
