Seven pipefitters for Fluor Federal Services were told to place a valve to test radioactive waste pipes. The workers objected because the valve was graded to withstand less pressure than required.

The workers were later fired, but a settlement ordered Fluor Federal Services to give the pipefitters their jobs back.

Attorneys for the plaintiffs say foremen at the site were told to lay off seven other workers in order to bring the seven who were laid off back. The whistleblower lawsuit includes five of the first seven who were terminated, and six of the workers consequently fired.

Attorneys for Fluor Federal Services say there wasn't enough work available for all of the pipefitters.

Damages in the whistleblower claim range from $89,700 to $553,000 for the eleven employees included in the suit.

Fluor Federal Services is considering an appeal, and has 30 days to file notice.
