The explosion occurred in a home in Snow Hill when firefighters and an Eastern Shore Gas Company employee were searching for the source of a propane leak. The blast killed one company employee, Daniel Saienni, while nearly a dozen firefighters sustained severe burn injuries.

The lawsuit, which names Saienni's family, nine firefighters and six of their spouses as plaintiffs, is requesting $10 million in compensation for the accident. In addition to Eastern Shore Gas Company, defendants in the case also include the insurance company covering firefighters medical expenses and workers compensation.
