A few physicians at six surgery centers and practices in Illinois claim they were substantially underpaid over the course of two years, receiving an underpayment of benefits that total over $1 million.

Thomas Pliura, the attorney and physician who filed the lawsuit, claimed that Blue Cross and Blue Shield did not pay claims for medically necessary services and used improper criteria to deny or lower payments for services that should have been covered according to the plan.

Pliura and the other doctors involved in the lawsuit are requesting that Blue Cross and Blue Shield reimburse them for underpaid or denied claims. In addition, they are asking that the insurance company be banned from underpaying or completely denying payment of future claims.
