The suit names as defendants the orthopedic surgeon who performed the procedure and the facility where it took place.

According to court documents, Barbara Olivo suffered from inflamed tendons in her left wrist and underwent surgery last year at Monsour Medical Center to correct her condition.

In her lawsuit, Olivo, who works as a nurse at Monsour, alleges that Dr. Selim El-Attrache did not perform the appropriate surgery to correct her condition. Instead, the suit claims, El-Attrache performed a surgical procedure designed to treat carpal tunnel syndrome.

Olivo's suit additionally contends that, following the procedure, El-Attrache made alterations to the consent form Olivo signed in order to make it appear that Olivo had granted permission to carpal tunnel surgery.

The hospital was included as a defendant in the case based on allegations that the facility did not take the proper steps to ensure that Olivo would undergo the correct surgery.

CEO Michael Monsour said that El-Attrache has been disciplined on account of the incident, however, he was unable to discuss the nature of the punishment.

El-Attrache has declined to comment on the case.
