The lawsuit filed in the Superior Court of North Carolina alleges that Ford was aware of defects in the 2000 model year Mustang but failed to take appropriate action to protect consumers.
Davidson County resident Jimmie Fine's lawsuit claims that he suffered severe head injuries after the 2000 Ford Mustang he was operating lost stability and rolled over several times.
Mr. Fine's lawsuit alleges that both the seatbelt and door latch safety features were defective, causing him to be ejected from the vehicle during the accident which occurred in September 2004.
The lawsuit also claims that Ford was aware of the defective safety features and attempted to conceal the problem from consumers.
A spokesperson for Ford declined to comment on the case.
