24-year-old Timothy Torres of Rancho Cordova died early Thursday at UC Davis Medical Center after a struggle with six deputies.

According to a sheriff's spokesman, deputies responded to a call from a family member that Torres had broken into the house and was threatening his parents, brother, and sister, with a kitchen knife. Witnesses report Torres behaving as though under the influence of drugs.

Deputies arrived at the house and struggled with 6-foot-3, 280 pound Torres. According to a Sheriff's spokesperson, one office used a Taser after repeated attempts to subdue Torres with batons and handholds. The Taser allegedly did not appear to slow him.

The deputies eventually managed to wrestle Torres to the ground. He collapsed shortly thereafter.

He was treated at the scene by Sacramento Metropolitan Firefighters and then taked to UC Davis Medical Center.
