Margaret Kidon, 65, and 73-year-old Barbara Bommarito, both from Trenton, Michigan, filed the lawsuits in Detroit on Friday claiming damages in excess of $75,000. The suit accuses the tour boat company of gross negligence and seeks compensation for pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical care, and post traumatic stress disorder. The two women told their attorney that they had to swim past the dead bodies of their friends to reach safety. Their attorney, Ven Johnson of Geoffrey Fieger Law, stated that the women are haunted every day by the memory of the accident and that the two women continue to have upper respiratory problems from swallowing diesel fuel and water.

Investigators are still determining whether the accident was caused by overcrowding or other factors.
