Lawsuits filed against railroad in intersection collision

The suits allege that CSX employees were negligent in operating a switchyard at a crossing where 19-year-old John Brazzell Jr., and his passenger 24-year-old Roderick Couch were killed in January 2003.

The lawsuits dispute an earlier statement by the Lexington County Deputy Coroner who said the car tried to beat the train. He said witnesses reported seeing lowered guardrails and warning lights flashing.

The plaintiff's attorney said that the parked train likely set off the warnings, and Brazzell believed no other trains were approaching.

The suits name CSX and two switching yard employees.
