Glenn Colann, a 56-year-old Columbus man convicted of ramming a boat and leaving the scene of the accident, is now serving his 10-year sentence in a halfway house.

Jack Porter, the prosecuting attorney, stated that it was disappointing that Colann would be placed in a halfway house. Porter further stated that considering the damage Colann did to the boat and its passengers, the sentence was not very severe.

Prosecutors alleged that Colann was intoxicated when he rammed his 40-foot speedboat into Brian Maher's boat near Dayton, Kentucky in June 2003. Colann did not stop to assist the distressed boat or render aid to the injured passengers, an act considered to be a cardinal rule among boaters.

Less than two months ago Circuit Judge Julie Reinhardt Ward denied Colann's request for shock probation.
