The families of two construction workers who died after falling from a scaffold at a malt plant have filed suit against International Malting Co.

Eighteen-year-old Andrew Sievertson and 22-year-old James Miller fell 140 feet from a work deck when the scaffolding beneath it collapsed on Nov. 22, 2004.

The suits, filed by Miller's widow Heather Hunt and Sievertson's parents Andrew and Peggy, named International Malting and project architect CTA Architects & Engineers as defendants in the suit.

The suits allege that the men were required to work under hazardous conditions, and that they died as a result of negligence, because the workplace and equipment provided were unreasonably dangerous.

The lawsuits do not suggest a dollar amount, but ask for compensatory damages, wrongful death and punitive damages.
