Congress Prepared to Exempt Missouri From Wright Amendment

Missouri is expected to soon become the eighth state to be made exempt from the Wright Amendment.

The law was originally created in 1979 to help growth of the newly built Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Many feel the law is now outdated and limits the competitive ability of airlines based out of Love Field, such as Southwest Airlines.

Once the exemption is approved, travelers will be able to take direct flights in and out of the airport

In his testimony before a senate panel, Republican Senator Kit Bond from Missouri stated that the Wright Amendment had outlived its usefulness and has no place in future aviation law.

The House and Senate will vote on the bill some time next week.
