A nurse's aide from Keyser, West Virginia was convicted of stealing a patient's medication by removing a pain patch from the patient's arm and sucking out the medication.

Megan Oglesbee, 21, was convicted of neglect after admitting to the incident, which occurred last year at Moran Manor Nursing Home in Westernport, Maryland.

According to the state attorney general's office, the incident took place after Oglesbee was given charge of an elderly resident at Moran Manor. The patient was wearing a 72-hour time-release patch that provided pain relief. Oglesbee admitted to removing the patch and using a pin to puncture the casing that contained the medication in order to then suck it out.

Oglesbee received an 18-month sentence for the incident, however this punishment was suspended and Oglesbee was instead placed on probation for three years. Oglesbee will also have to undergo treatment for substance abuse and will no longer be able to be employed caring for dependent adults. The judge who issued Oglesbee's punishment also suspended a $1000 fine.
