A Clifton, Maine man charged with multiple counts of drug and firearm possession will spend 27 months in prison.
William Sjostrom, a 42-year-old from Clifton, Maine, plead guilty to possessing the drug OxyContin with the intent to distribute and to illegal possession of a firearm. Sjostrom is prohibited from having guns as a result of two previous drug convictions.
Although Sjostrom faced up to 30 years in prison, a $2 million fine for the drug charges, up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for gun possession, he received a much lighter sentence for the criminal law case. Sjostrom was forced to pay a fine in the amount of $5,000 and serve a 27-month prison sentence.
Sjostrom was caught when agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration's Task Force and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency saw him and his wife, Brenda Sjostrom, buying drugs in a parking lot.
Brenda Sjostrom, 42, was also arrested and plead guilty to possessing OxyContin with the intent to distribute. She faces a fine of up to $1 million and could be sent to prison for as long as 20 years.
