The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has fined Bogatay Construction $3,000 for the improper disposal of asbestos.

The Klamath Falls construction company did not properly package and label debris that contained asbestos at a downtown site. The discovery was made during a DEQ site visit in 2004. The notice of noncompliance was sent to the company on Feb 15 of this year.

DEQ officials stated that the failure to properly dispose of the material put the public at risk of asbestos exposure.

Laws require a state-licensed asbestos abatement contractor to manage the disposal of materials containing asbestos.
