The Wauseon, Ohio firm agreed to pay $10,000 in fines over the clean-air violations, which were reported last summer after a facility inspection.

Multi-Cast primarily produces aluminum castings, in addition to bronze and brass castings. The Wauseon plant has 12 aluminum-melting furnaces.

In addition to failing to test for dioxins and furans at the plant, Multi-Cast also disregarded EPA labeling and reporting requirements, violating the Clean Air Act.

Dioxins have been linked to both liver damage and cancer in humans, and furans have been linked to cancer.

The settlement agreement between Multi-Cast and the EPA was announced yesterday.
