Man Convicted in Drug Dealer's Murder

A Pennsylvania jury found Sonnie Thomas, 49, guilty of murdering Carlos Garcia, 19. The incident took place almost exactly a year ago, on January 21, 2005.

According to the District Attorney, Thomas purchased 80 dollars worth of crack cocaine on January 20th and wanted more the next day, but could not afford to pay for it. Subsequently, Thomas decided to take the drugs by force.

Using a sword, Thomas cut Garcia more than 80 times, killing the 19-year-old.

The defense attorney stated that Thomas was a paranoid schizophrenic and he had been battling cocaine and alcohol addictions.

The jury found Thomas guilty of murder and sentenced him to life in prison.
