The pilot, Jon Kraut of Ewing, N.J., his wife, Robin, their three children, ages 8, 6 and 2, and a babysitter were all killed in the crash. Mr. Kraut had reported engine trouble shortly before the plane went down. While attempting a second landing, the plane slammed into the ground and burst into flames.

Jon Kraut was a well-known orthodontist who frequented the Grand Strand Airport.

Foggy, cloudy weather was thought to be a contributing factor in the crash.
