In 1999, Andrew Muno received surgery on his wrist to repair a severed tendon he suffered after he slipped and shattered a piece of glass at home. The boy, who attended Woodland Middle School in Gurnee, underwent surgery at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
According to the lawsuit, the boy experienced an allergic reaction to the medication he received during surgery. The reaction caused him to suffer fatal breathing difficulties, the suit states.
Last week, jurors found in favor of the family after deciding that the surgeon and anesthesiologist involved in the procedure were guilty of negligence for failing to discontinue the operation when it became evident that the boy was unable to breathe properly.
