According to the Justice Department, Amir Hussein, of Charlotte, North Carolina, defrauded the government Medicare program for six years.

The lawsuit alleges that Hussein overcharged the program, billed for services that were unnecessary, and in some cases double charged for the same service.

These fraudulent practices provided Hussein with higher reimbursements than he should have received.

The terms of the settlement include the $2.6 million payment to cover the amount of the fraud, in addition to a fine. An auditor will also review Hussein's accounting practices for five years.

The whistleblower who initially filed the lawsuit against Hussein is entitled to a portion of the settlement money.
