The lawsuit alleges that in August 2003, a box fan manufactured by Lasko Products caused a mobile home fire that killed 10-year-old Dariana Tapia.

Recently, the Pennsylvania-based company announced a nationwide recall of more than five million of its fans after they were linked to 42 fires and seven severe injuries.

The recalled fans, which were sold between 1999 and 2004, include various Lasko, Galaxy, General Electric, and Air King models. An investigation revealed that a pinch spring in the fan could create resistance around the electrical wires and potentially cause a fire.

Consumers are advised to stop using the fans immediately and contact the company for a free protective adaptor cord.

An attorney for Lasko declined to comment on the pending wrongful death lawsuit.
