Cargo plane crashes at Dover Air Force Base

All 17 passengers aboard the aircraft survived; however, information on the extent of their injuries was not made available. The injured passengers were brought to BayHealth Hospital and Kent General Hospital.

Officials say there was some indication of problems with the aircraft shortly after take off. When the pilot attempted to return to Dover Air Force Base, the plane crashed just short of the runway. The large aircraft broke into three pieces, but there was no apparent smoke or flames.

It wasn't clear if the aircraft was carrying cargo. Emergency crews arrived at the scene, some wearing hazardous materials suits.

Maj. Ange Keskey of the Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois said the crash is under investigation.
