Anna Castillo, Yolanda Salmeron, Filiberto Castaneda, and Brigitte Dollarhide filed the suit in Chatsworth Superior Court, claiming that after the Newhall Denny's ran out of dish soap, employees were told to clean the dishes with water and reuse them.
When they refused and walked out mid-shift, the four plaintiffs claim management took "adverse employment action" against them.
The plaintiffs are asking for $10 million for general damages, $5 million for lost wages, and $50 million for punitive damages.
Denny's released a statement describing the claims made by disgruntled former employees as "without merit." In addition, the company stated that the four waitresses abandoned their jobs.
The statement went on to say the company has "strict brand standards covering food handling, preparation, cleanliness, sanitation, regulatory practices and services that are HACCP certified."
Following the alleged incident the four plaintiffs picketed outside the restaurant with signs that read, "Dirty Dishes at Denny's Unhealthy."
