Walker, 81, had just returned home from work and let her dog, 2-year-old Lily, into the backyard when she heard a commotion from that area.

She arrived to find a pit bull biting Lily and shaking her back and forth. Walker attempted to separate the two, but the pit bull turned on her and injured her in several places on her arm.

The attack finally came to a halt when Walker's upstairs neighbor, Ted De Varennes, confronted and beat the dog with a piece of wood.

Walker's dog, Lily, sustained massive injuries to the abdomen and required more than two hours of surgery.

The pit bull's owners, who live down the street, claim that the dog has no history of attacking either animals or humans and that the incident was just an accident.

Walker, saying that she does not feel safe walking her dog outside anymore, has filed a complaint against the pit bull in city court. A judge is due to hear the case later this week to determine the fate of the pit bull.
