The surgery was supposed to fix a minor problem she had after giving birth to two children. Instead, Davis is unable to urinate normally and must catheterize herself about two times a day for the rest of her life.
The six-member jury deliberated for two hours before reading the verdict. The gynecologist who performed the surgery, Robert Bowles, and the medical group Physician Associates of Florida owe Davis $3 million for the pain and suffering she has already experienced and $25 million for 40 more years of it.
Bowels attorney denies negligence on his clients part, saying he had been monitoring Davis' progress, but she had stopped coming to him for care. His attorney will be asking for a new trial and wants the award amount reduced.
