Kenneth Wayne Maready was drunk and driving a stolen vehicle at the time of the accident. Maready had been pulled over by police, but sped away from the officers. Just moments later, he was involved in a deadly collision.

The other driver, Kay Stokes, 61, was driving a truck with her five-year-old granddaughter in a car seat. Stokes was killed in the crash, but her granddaughter survived with only minor injuries.

Maready was released from prison only a month before this tragic accident after serving time for another DUI offense. He had permanently lost driving privileges when his license was revoked more than 10 years ago.
