Nicolas Mora cannot talk or walk and will require 24-hour medical care for the duration of his life, said Charles Monnett, the lawyer who represented the boy and his parents.

One defendant is Nicolas' aunt, Gila Miranda Buzzetta, in whose car Nicholas was riding at the time of the Nov. 29, 2004 accident. The other defendant is Lisa Anne Thomas-Bowers, who was driving another vehicle.

The suit alleged that the two defendants drove their vehicles in a careless and negligent manner by failing to keep a proper lookout and failing to keep their vehicles under control.

Monnett said that the boy's medical care has already amounted to more than $525,000. He was still in a coma when the lawsuit was filed early in 2005.

The Superior Court jury returned the verdict on Monday and made the award for personal injuries and damages Wednesday.

The defendants can appeal.
