McKenna says she was holding her 4-month-old son Phinneus and walking behind the goal post area, which was open to spectators, when she stepped into the valve and tripped. The fall caused McKenna to drop Phinneus to the ground. As a result, he temporarily lost consciousness and suffered a right femur fracture which today, causes him to drag his right foot.
McKenna's attorney, James McKiernan, says Phinneus may have developmental injuries as a result of the fall and his current medical bills total about $30,000. McKenna also suffered back and neck pain and now takes anti-anxiety medication because of the incident.
McKenna filed a claim against the district which was denied, prompting her to file a lawsuit. The suit asks the district to pay $738,000 for pain and suffering and for past and future medical bills.
The district's insurance company is looking for witnesses and investigating the matter.
