Currently, the cutoff date for challenging paternity, according to the state's laws, is the first two years of the child's life. The bill's sponsor, Rep. Curtis Richardson, R-Tallahassee, contends that such a restriction is unfair. He has been contacted by several men who shared their stories about finding out too late that they had been financially supporting someone else's children. One man made the discovery after the child told him that his mother said he had "two daddies."

The Florida House overwhelmingly passed the bill, but no action has been taken by the Florida Senate yet.
