The recall was prompted by reports that the Schwinn Deluxe Bicycle Child Carrier may potentially fall off of its rack if not properly positioned and secured.

PTI Sports received five reports of the carriers falling off of bikes. Three incidents involved minor injuries.

The faulty bicycle carrier is a child seat attached to the back of an adult’s bicycle. The carrier’s model number is SW571T, which can be found on the product’s packaging and owner manual. The child carrier is gray plastic with blue seating and black safety straps. Schwinn carriers were sold nationwide from September 2004 through November 2005 for approximately $50.

Consumers should discontinue use of these bicycle child carriers immediately. The carriers should not be returned to the original store of purchase. Instead, consumers are instructed to contact PTI Sports to receive a free safety bracket and installation instructions.

For additional information regarding this recall, consumers should phone PTI Sports at (800) 515-0074 or visit the company’s Website at www.schwinnbike.com.
